I'm still learning this game, but I would have played it the same way that you did. MP2 seems to just be floating along and hoping for a gift. My guess is you lost to his trip 7s on the river.

You didn't give us any reads on the player. Versus the standard player you lose here most of the time. Your cap certainly said you weren't afraid of top pair. His raise on the river said he's not afraid that your not afraid of top pair.

But standard players don't play 45 in mp. Is that what he had?

Whether you won this hand or not is irrelevant.

Did you play this hand correctly given your knowledge of your opponent?

I agree with Bullajami! That said I am going to take a guess anyway.

My first part of the guess is that you lost because I donít think we would be seeing this if you won. From the way MP2 played the hand I am going to take a guess and make the read that MP2 is loose and either passive or has a case of FPS.

The more reasonable side says he had TT.
    * I donít see 66 or 33 because I just canít imagine myself cold calling 3 pre flop. <-- Then again, I am surprised by what people do every day I play.
    * I donít see 88 because he cold called 2 on the flop twice. <--This makes me really think he has a bad case of FPS and has a set of TT.

However, my gut keeps telling me he has a 9 in his hand somewhere. Even though I wouldnít have cold called the flop with any of these I suppose he could have T9d or maybe 99 or even A9d.

    So what happened?

I think you lost, but you played it fine. He probably had 99.

FPS=Fancy Play Syndrome. It's where a player tries to get tricky when playing straightforward would likely end in a better result.

Don't think I would have betted out on the river here. Just check-call. Whatever he has he's not going to get bluffed out of the pot at this stage.

I think even I would have bet this river. MP2 was totally passive and gave no indication of any strength. I would think you want to value bet here? It seems likely he's going to call your bet.
