When is it OK to turn a good hand into a bluff?

Interesting choice of words, but I think "cue" makes more sense there :-)

Just wait for good cards and focus on pot odds, because the implied odds and bluffing potential are rarely high enough to justify playing bad ones

What would be an example of a rare time when it would be justified?

I know this hand is not exactly on point, or maybe it is. Anyway can anyone comment on this one?

http://www.internettexasholdem.com/poke ... highlight=

There was a lot of comment in the thread. Here is the hand reposted from there.

It folds to me on the Button and I have :Ac :2s. I raise to 2.25 BBs which has been the std raise at this table. Both the SB and the BB call.

Pot: 6.75 BBs
Flop: :Ah :Ks :4d

Checked around

Turn: :Qc

SB checks, BB bets 4BBs, I call, SB folds.

Pot 14.75BBs

River: :Jd

BB checks, your move.....

An interesting situation arose in the last 1.5K I played at Rio on Wednesday. There was a poor thinking calling station type gentlemen in Seat 1. There was a tricky, and maybe very good, young Russian in Seat 6.

After there was betting on the flop, a hand got checked through on the turn. Then the Calling Station (I'm calling him that but he was more complex) bet the river and the Russian made a substantial raise. Calling Station went into the tank and eventually folded.

Later, an hour later, this hand comes up.
I can't remember the preflop betting although there was betting, but the flop was checked through. Russian had position.

Board was xxxAx rainbow.

Calling Station checked, Russian bet, and Calling Station called the turn after some deliberation. It did not appear that Calling Station had a draw.

On the river Calling Station checked, Russian pushed, and Calling Station went into the tank. The push was a little more than the size of the pot. The Calling Station was in agony and certainly more than 5 minutes went by. Finally he called.

Russian instamucked and left the table. Calling Station has to show to win the pot....AJo

Fold around to me in the SB with 74o. BB is a super nit who has a VP$IP of 6 and folds to a SB steal 90% of the time. Raising 3bb is profitable here unless super nit adjusts to you (unlikely as robotic as some of these guys are)

...or were you being sarcastic?

I was being a little nitty to get an answer from james himself  I think it's too easy to say "play good cards", but then imply there are times when you shouldn't, while evading the question of what those times are. So it was a challenge to him to finish his thought.
