what do you do when you miss the flop

Postby IH8Folding » Apr 20 2010

I have found that when I'm the pre flop raiser with a premium hand like AK, AQ and maybe KQ, AJ and make a continuation bet OOP when i have missed the flop with no real cards to represent, and get a caller i always face a big decision on the turn if i miss that as well:

check to opponent, but this just seems to ooze weakness, and if they bet its so hard to call/raise.

fire another big bet on the turn, but then if this goes wrong and opponent raises, then i'm way too pot committed to fold.

I'm assuming anyone who reads this will have been in this situation may times before, so what do you normally do?

It depends on the flop texture, stack sizes and the other player's tendencies, so it is hard to provide a generic answer. Against a player who is going to float a lot, you will have to check the flop more often. You keep him honest by mixing checks on your made hands and calling or raising enough to keep him honest. In some cases, you make the c-bet and prepare to let it go once you are called.
