equity and odds

Postby simmo5050 » May 29 2010

If 1:1 = 50%, 2:1 = 66% - 33% (equity wise), 9:1 is 90% - 10%, is there a table of equity percentages = odds and vice versa or a way of doing the calculation?

e.g. If I have 16% equity, what odds do I need?

Alternatively, if I divide 100 by my 'equity' % and subtract , does this work in all cases?

e..g 100 / 16 = 5.25
5.25 - 1 = 4.25:1

There's a huge difference form poker odds and the equity of poker. The equity differs from pot odds in the sense that pot equity usually helps determine when you should bet while pot odds lets you decide whether to call.

I hate working with the numbers that way, and I don't know why so many players like them that way. I much prefer fractions.

1/2 = 50%

2/3 = 66%

Don't really need a table if you do it that way just take the numerator and divide by the nominator.
