WSOP final table on ESPN

Postby nsidestrate » Oct 17 2011

I just read that the entire final table will be aired on 15 minute delay on ESPN. Every single hand, with hole cards. It starts Sunday November 6th at 11:30am Vegas time (2:30pm EST) and they will play down to 3 players. The last 3 will return Tuesday evening at 5/8pm to play down to a winner. I loved the live every hand coverage on ESPN earlier this year and I think this will be really cool. I don't know how many non-poker players will dig it, but I'm very happy.

This is awesome!

Not sure how productive I'll be on Monday, but who cares - that's only work.

I hope they have a feed as I doubt they'll show this in the UK.

I kinda prefer it without hole cards, but for the casual viewer it makes sense.

Any word on who is commentating? I guess they'll have a few, but I thought Busquet and Antonio were both great.

Esfandiari, who I think was the best overall. He's really a remarkable hand reader with very good explanations for why he calls things the way he does. I definitely learned things from him.

They are going to show hole cards for anyone who enters the pot, but not if you fold pre-flop.

I just went to double check and Antonio is doing the 3 handed, but it looks like they will rotate analysts for the rest of the coverage. No schedule yet.

What do people think about the 15 minute delay from a player perspective?

Some of the hands they play will take at least that long, so the most informed players will have some great information. I think it greatly favours the better players and those with a decent network of friends to quickly pass on and interpret any data they get.

I guess they'll ban phones? Not much they can do about the crowd though.

Should be interesting to watch.

If I was playing, I would certainly try to arrange a group to watch and pass information to me. Its a brave new world. During the WSOP last year, I was playing with Brian Micon and Lex Veldhuis and I would watch them play a hand and then pull out their phone to type and a few minutes later, I'd read it on twitter. It was interesting. At one point on a different table we were talking about people who were intentionally lying on twitter to thwart that kind of thing. However, most hand reports I saw were pretty accurate. Jon Turner reported his thinking in great detail on twitter over about five tweets and I know his report was accurate because both of them showed.
