UK poker tours 2012

Postby philhux » Nov 17 2011

For European players I think UKIPT is a great tour. So far I just played one leg in season one, but I've already booked my flight and accomodation for Nottingham in April. I have no idea how to get to Galway so I'm not sure about that one. They have upped the buy ins a little this year which I think is good.

Galway (Radisson Hotel) - €700+70, 16-20th Feb 2012. €100k GTD
Nottingham (DTD) - £700+70, 12th-16th Apr 2012. £200k GTD
Dublin (CityWest) - €700+70, 17th-21st May 2012. €250k GTD
Newcastle (Aspers) - £700+70, 6th-10th Sep 2012. £100k GTD

I've never played a GUKPT, somehow I always change my mind. I believe it is a different style to the stars tour, less sat winners, older field and more post flop play I'm told. I'm intrigued by the Belgium leg, it could be a nice train ride over from Berlin. I believe these are mostly 1ks with a couple of $500 and the Goliath in Coventry is smaller still. The grand final is 2.5k

Leg 1 - G Casino, Bury New Rd, Manchester -22nd-29th January
Leg 2 - G Casino, Walsall - 11th-18th March
Leg 3 - G Casino, Stockton - 8th-15th April
Leg 4 - G Casino, Thanet 22nd - 29th April
Leg 5 - Ireland - 6th-13th May
Leg 6 - Belgium - 3rd-10th June
Leg 7 - G Casino, Plymouth - 1st-8th July
Leg 8 - G Casino, Bolton - 15th-22nd July
Leg 9 - G Casino Coventry & Goliath 2012 - 19th-27th August
Leg 10 - London Grosvenor Victoria - 16th-23rd September
Leg 11 - G Casino, Luton - 14th-21st October
Leg 12 - G Casino, Blackpool - 4th-11th November

Ireland West Airport (Knock) is about 40 miles away, with cheapy flights including Ryanair from a number of UK airports. Buses seem to be the only public transport way of getting to Galway from the airport.

Ireland West is the closest and taxis are affordable as well as the bus. There are also buses from Shannon, which may offer cheaper flights. The bus is like 90 minutes from Shannon to Galway, however.

I've never been to the west of Ireland and I'd really like to go, but I'm not sure February is the ideal time to explore the region, so I'll have to think about this one.

I hope they have a summer time stop in Cork again as I've also never been there and that would be a nice trip.

I have played in two GUKPT events (Brighton and London) and I would definitely recommend them. The field was much softer than I expected for the buy in, much more so than the one UKIPT I played last year (Brighton).

I think there tends to be a lot more local qualifiers in the GUKPT events, guys that play the weekly £30/£50/£100 tournies, whereas the Stars events obviously have a decent number of online players.

I like the buy-in increase for UKIPT too, but I have seen some negativity on other forums and from some players I know. I think they felt that £550 was the sweet spot, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

A new tour!

http://www.gentingpokerseries.com/

Leg 1 Birmingham Star City 01/02/12 - 05/02/12
Leg 2 Southend 28/03/12 - 01/04/12
Leg 3 Edinburgh 30/05/12 - 03/06/12
Leg 4 Stoke 01/08/12 - 05/08/12
Leg 5 Sheffield 26/09/12 - 30/09/12
Leg 6 Online 10/11/12 - 13/11/12
Leg 7 Palm Beach 07/12/12 - 11/12/12

Not so sure about southend but the Birmingham one is just by where I grew up.

All buy ins £400+30 and the final is £1.5k - I almost just want to go and play a leg to support it because they made the juice 30 and not 40.

Yo everyone! I am still alive just float in and out of poker as usual..

Binked a UKIPT Galway seat tonight so will be playing that.

Think im flying into Dublin then training it in.. If anyone makes it hit me up on facebook facebook.com/mjmilne or twitter @scottishbolt as I'll be travelling alone and could use with saving money on hotel / having someone to talk cards with.

At the moment I'm registered for UKIPT Nottingham and the Genting Birmingham leg. I don't think I'm going to Galway but I'm slightly jealous sj, will make it to that part of Ireland one day.

The second Genting leg has now been moved to the Fox Club in London. Should be a big turn out. I think these Genting tournaments will be really great!

With the lower buying I'm hoping to sat into ad many gentings as possible. The genting/ipoker software isn't too bad so will be trying to get into the star city one and might see you there. Booked flights and hotels for Galway last night q: phil? When do you book your return flights home when you play euro tourneys? This time I'm playing fri and flight is sun morn so if I do bust out day 1 I don't have too long to bum about. On the flipside if I make day 3 I'm happy to pay for more hotels / accom as I'll be in the € I think.

Btw you should come to Galway If you are swithering over it. We'll drink guinness and go 1/2 in the main.

I actually am in Berlin a lot of the time, so when I go to places like Prague, Vienna etc I get the train. For flying back I guess I don't have a set plan, it depends on what the side events are like, if I want a vacation there anyway and if there is somewhere I can grind sundays ( I haven't missed a Sunday so far this year!) I've started renting apartments through airbnb.com as it is often cheaper than a hotel and you know there is stable internet, plus I hate hanging out at the hotel with all the poker players all day!

But I guess booking a flight back on the day of the final table makes sense?

In my experience if you have an extra spare day, it is often better and more +ev to pay for the extra night of hotel as day 1a is usually a lot more chilled out, which I prefer and generally a lot softer.

I kind of have a new rule that to go and play a live tourney I have to want to go to that place anyway - so that rules out any trips to Luton in the near future!

Galway is a bit awkward to get to plus if I play another live tourney in February I will probably go to Italy.

To add: There is also this Hungarian coach company that I use for travelling around central Europe! It is so cheap and I love it because you have to pay in Hungarian Florins.

Let me know if you are going to be at Genting Birmingham though!

I believe that if you are platinum star and above you can buy in direct through the Stars client. Otherwise go to the website of the club, Dusk til Dawn, pretty sure you will be able to buy in advance via a visa card or on the day at the club with cash or perhaps visa too. I'm sure there are also sats on the Dtd poker client which is Boss network. This has been a huge event in the past two years so I'd probably want to get my seat locked up in advance rather than buying in on the day. I'm playing Day 1b.
