PartyPoker Bad Beat Jackpot

Postby ThePaladin » Jun 11 2004

I see PartyPoker has a beta going for a bad beat jackpot which sounded like something fun until I read the details of it. To qualify you have to lose with quad 10's or better using both your cards. The jackpot is at $5,000 but that is only for beta testing to encourage people to play.

The # of times that quad 10's or better would lose seems astronomically small and don't really see what benefit or attraction that would give people to play at tables that have the feature. I'd prefer to see a lower qualifying requirement with a smaller jackpot amount to make it a more likely occurance and add some excitement to those beats.

You have obviously not played at party!!

Now this seems like the only way I could ever win anything there, also I believe this is going to make them go bankrupt......

Paladin,

I so agree...they should lower the requirement to aces full of jacks...or at least any quads. This is ridiculous. Also I'm not even sure if they're going to be funding the thing..

But have you checked out the tables? They look jammed..

I think if they did this right it would be a huge attraction. They ought to throw in some sort of bonus for royal flushes too. It happens enough that it would be really popular...maybe something like 50 bucks. God knows they could afford it.
Shut up and deal.

I sent them an email suggesting that the jackpot be lower and the qualifying requirements be lowered also.

Aye, the jackpot in itself is nuts, but especially when you consider that once it goes out of bets you'll have to pay a "bad beat contribution", - read fatter rake.

Right now while in beta its essentially regular 2/4-3/6 tables with an astronomical chance to win a little bit of extra money. However, the tables are crowded with fish who want to see what this bad beat jackpot thingie is all about and, I suppose, hope they get lucky. So if you play those limits(esp. 2/4) I suggest you go fishing there. Been making a killing there as of late, - no jackpot tho :/

It happens enough. I had my four sixes snapped on river by four tens once. It was in a casino with no cap on heads-up raising. I put in like four before it even occured to me I might be beaten.

Well you need to have Quad tens beaten. Anyhow does anyone know the exact % of tiem this will happen? I say 1/500,000 for quad tens to be beaten using both hole cards by both players.

I have :)

Went something like this:

I hold KK
flop comes down K9x
turn K
river 9

Opponent had 99 for quad 9's. He couldn't rasie me fast enough on the river. I forget exactly how the betting went, and this was pre pokertracker for me so I can't check. I know I raised preflop. I also know that I sort of slowplayed both the flop and turn (turn for sure), but neither one went check-check.

If I remember correctly he acted first. I raised the flop, he reraised I called. On the turn it went bet call. the river went bet-raise-reraise-cap.

That was on Stars though - so no jackpots.

I've seen high quads beaten a few times, now that I recall correctly.

Then again, some people get struck by lightning.

My main concern is that this basically means a higher rake, which is very bad news indeed. Second, that rake at least in live casinos is NOT put directly into a jackpot for the players, but, despite what they say, a substantial portion is kept for the house. Many times I've not seen the jackpot budge after a many hours or even two days of playing in a packed casino -- yet the jackpot rake keeps getting taken down "for the players."

By the way, the regular party games are still packed. I think the jackpot attracted plenty of people, but the regular games are still going strong.

And you know what surprises me? Jackpots in live games encourage people to stay in more, so the pots get bigger. The average pots seemed pretty much the same when I scanned the game listings whether the game was jackpot or not, even on a Saturday night.

Had quad Kings beaten on Stars just last week... Only the second time I've ever seen quads beaten at all, and the only time I've ever had them beaten.

I need to try playing those tables. Everybody must call your raise when they have pocket pairs and must chase to the river in hopes of hitting quads. These tables sound very lucrative.
