Great question for a debate...

Postby jrmdes » Sep 17 2005

you have TT flop is Th 4c 5s turn is a 9h... 3 players go all in... FOLD or CALL??

Why?? run the math.. see what your odds are..
what are the odds you will redraw the boat??
What are the odds on getting outdrawn??

I really think this is a great hand for discussion...

Now lets give 2 different scenarios.. there is 400$ in the pot and you have 100$ invested.. player 1 is all in for 700 player 2 750.. player 3 1000. you have 900... does this change anything as opposed to the next money scenario...

there is 40$ in the pot.. you have 10$ invested. player 1 has 400. 2 has 250 and 3 has 90$ and you have 160... does this change anything??

what kind of investment or what kind of $'s to call would alter your decision??

I'm confused. Isn't your hand the nuts here? I'm calling so fast I might get rug burn on my hands psuhing my chips. A flush draw has 7 outs against me so I'm going to beat them about 85% of the time and I'd beat the oesd 83% of the time.

The situation I thought would be worst case is that you are against Ah2h, QJ and 76. Assuming the QJ ad 65 aren't diamonds, you still are 60% to win getting huge overlay in either scenario:

Code: Select all
Board: Th 4c 5s 9h
Dead:

             equity (%)      win (%) / tie (%)

Hand  1:     60.0000 %   [  00.60   00.00  ]    { TdTc }
Hand  2:     15.0000 %   [  00.15   00.00  ]    { QdJd }
Hand  3:     07.5000 %   [  00.08   00.00  ]    { 7d6d }
Hand  4:     17.5000 %   [  00.18   00.00  ]    { Ah2h }

It turns out that Ah2h, QJ, 99 actually make you a 57.5% favorite, but still an easy call for me:

Code: Select all
Board: Th 4c 5s 9h
Dead:

             equity (%)      win (%) / tie (%)

Hand  1:     57.5000 %   [  00.58   00.00  ]    { TdTc }
Hand  2:     15.0000 %   [  00.15   00.00  ]    { QdJd }
Hand  3:     02.5000 %   [  00.03   00.00  ]    { 9s9c }
Hand  4:     25.0000 %   [  00.25   00.00  ]    { Ah2h }

You could have two players on the flush draw and one on an underset and be a 78% favorite:

Code: Select all
Board: Th 4c 5s 9h
Dead:

             equity (%)      win (%) / tie (%)

Hand  1:     77.5000 %   [  00.78   00.00  ]    { TdTc }
Hand  2:     00.0000 %   [  00.00   00.00  ]    { Kh8h }
Hand  3:     02.5000 %   [  00.03   00.00  ]    { 4h4d }
Hand  4:     20.0000 %   [  00.20   00.00  ]    { Ah2h }

Technically, you don't have a "redraw" since you are ahead and there is only one card to come.

I was already pot-committed or all-in on the flop.

I used Pokerstove for those calculations. You might also try twodimes for a similar tool.

Suited lured me to sleep at 10. On the plus side, the tables are amazingly fishified at this hour.

Last time I was in San Francisco I think I was making twice the money I make at home. I was almost able to win more each night than Suited could spend each day.

Yeah, great question... Should I call a multiway all in with the stone cold nuts? Hmmm...

The only time I'd fold is in a sat. where we're on the bubble and they all have equal stacks or very close to. Every other time I call easily.

Well this was where the question originally came from. .then we started discussing ring games...

Trust me we both agreed in a cash game call... in a cash tourny call.. in a sat near the bubble fold... unless your the shortstack and need the chips to get a seat.

I just thought the question might be somewhat interesting.. seeing if there is a time when you migth fold something liek this in a multiway pot with so many draws able to beat you..

1) If you play this any other way with that board, you are playing too tight...probably playing tournies that are too big for your bankroll.

2) With that hand and that board, I am thrilled to get all in on the turn, even with three opponents having pushed before me.

3) If you are afraid of getting sucked out by Axh , QJ or 99, see point #1.
