I am pretty excited. I've never been to Vegas, I love playing poker (despite being a newbie) and I'd love to meet many of the ITHers. I have got to convince a freind to come. My girlfried suggested taking her and her parents with me  Not going to happen!

Taz,

I took my wife last year. But we went with another non poker playing couple. That's almost ideal. I think ideal would be 2 couples with 2 poker players and then my wife could shop, go to shows etc with the other nonpoker player.

It turned a 100% poker trip into a 50% poker trip. But that's okay with me, after all I can play poker everyday at home both live and on the internet. I can justify the trip as a vacation but as a poker trip I don't think it's +EV, so for me it's a vacation.

I'll see you there.
Sure am glad my government knows what is best for me..., and if I disagree, well then, I’ll just have to go to jail for a while and think about it.

I don't know your girlfriend's parents, but you might consider the following.

The girlfriend suggested it. Always take those suggestions seriously.
Are her parents capable of doing stuff on their own? You don't have to entertain them 100% of the time. Probably just a couple of meals (they might even pay) and maybe a day trip to Hoover Dam. Heck, they might be hoping you're not a burden on them.

They might take your girlfriend off your hands while you play poker (unless she's going to play too).

Great suggestions guys, but it's more the parents that I'm leery of vacationing with. The girlfriend is quite content with me playing poker. Her parents on the other hand are traditional Chinese parents so I'm -ev for them just being white. On top of that, I drink, gamble and don't go to church :x .

Anyway, I would be constantly hounded if they came along. I would much rather go on a cruise with them so I could devote more time to proving my worth as a responsible future husband.

I'll still almost surely be there, just have to solidify the details.

A guy from work told me today he'll probably come. I just lent him ITH for a week and he read the first 30 pages last night. He is hilarious. Today he said, "I think there is only so much to learn about poker. Once you know it all it's all about luck. I'm sure I could read Matthew just as well as he could read me." LOL!!!

Needless to say I had a little chat with him.

And he'll be there, right?

Yeah, he said he is interested in coming and if he does, he'll play. He's just at that stage where you get your first bit of knowledge and you think you know everything. It happened to me. I'm slowly talking some sense into him.

Anyone remember that guy who turned up last year (I think he was one of Torches friends). He didn't come to the convention but I remember him in 'our' area of the plaza saying something like 'I could beat any of these guys. I can lay down Kings!!!!!'

Apparently folding the second best hand in poker is in some way indicative of poker genius.

Me, neither. Let's get drunk and tell things-that-happened-on-deployment stories at the convention.

For all the UK guys that went last year, I'd like to ask how much it cost you in terms of Hotel rooms and Flights?

There's probably a slim chance I'll be able to come (read: be allowed to come), but at least it'll give me some idea as to whether I can afford it anyway.

Thanks!

Well the hotel room is as cheap as chips. Last year, my mate and I shared a room with two double beds in it and it worked out to about £12 per night each, so don't worry about that. The flights can be a pain. Best thing to do is book them as early as you can. Last year we left it to the last minute (to be fair the convention was organised only a few months in advance) and so we ende dup paying about £400 each for flights if I remember rightly. Once you are there it's pretty cheap. Food is cheap and unless you take a hammering at the tables so is recreation.

There seems to be a lot of discussion about prices from the UK in this thread from last year:
