Avatars

Postby Damien » Mar 20 2010

Are everybody's avatars really under 20kb? I might wanna change mine, but everything I find is way outside the restrictions. Or is there an easy way to get them within the requirements, like using MS paint or something?

Pasting an image into MS Paint and then saving it as a jpeg image will really compress the data size of most images. Hopefully it doesn't compress the quality of the image too much but that is how I have made my avatars in the past.

You can also host an image on a site like www.photobucket.com and link it into your avatar. I believe this allows you to go over the size restrictions and the mods don't care unless it is affecting the formatting of the forum (big avatars push over the content of the posts). My avatar is slightly bigger than the allowable limits if I loaded the image up to ITH itself.

I've always found that saving as JPG + reducing to 100x100 or less works every time.

Sorry, forgot to say thanks, obviously I've figured out how to switch it now...

Think I'll stick with this one for a while, seems appropriate...

Cropped it a little, but done.

You can edit your avatar from your profile page, FWIW.
