Dealing with a live blind

Postby AlamedaMike » May 25 2008

This really applies to live low limit games. Online I guess the closest you could come to this is if a player is a maniac and raises his UTG 100%.

I was playing in a $3/6 LHE and a older woman that was playing very badly was doing a live blind every time I as BB.

Should I like this or not? What is the beat approach? Change seats or play my normal game? I could skip my BB and post $4 behind the button. I did this a few time as a bathroom break.

Does it matter? A raise is a raise? Ideas or comments?

Barry T wrote a three articles on Cardplayer about how to play against a maniac- but post flop she would just call with almost anything so she is only a maniac preflop.

If you have not read his articles then I think that you are missing out on a great resource.

Thanks
You know what happened, though. You put in bets when you were well ahead and you didn't pay any money when you were behind. If you replayed this hand 1,000 times, who do you think would go broke first? quote "nsidestrate"

What was she doing? Are you referring to a straddle (playing UTG and posting a 2 SB blind, making it 2 SB to continue)? If so Ed Miller had a pretty good post on that on his blog awhile ago. Dunno if you can still access that or not with the changes to his site.

Yes a live straddle.

I found that Ed's site is mostly no limit and I just play limit. Further, he has changed his site to a fee based site.

Hi. Good news and bad news. Answer: Take the big blind. Move if possible, but do not worry about it. And do not make it obvious. Meantime, remind lefty that it is her turn to straddle in case she forgets.

Bad news: You will have to play tighter in the blinds as you will never get a free play. And there will likely be stupid three-bets and so on as players idiotically react to the straddle.

Good news: the live straddle is such a terrible play that everyone at the table benefits, including you. Yes, it will benefit others more, as you will need to wait for a hand to enter, but you will eventually get some. And the extra money and awful play the straddle tends to induce will help your overall success.

Thanks for tips. She only 'forgot' one time, but as I said she went broke. Since it is good for everyone we should gently encourage it. It does liven up the game some and offset the drop as well.
