Re: WSOPE!I only lasted a few hours in the 6 max. Couldn't get away from the overpair on a low board vs Alex Wice - the most aggro player at the table.
The 1k was a REALLY good tournament. Sadly I busted the last hand of the day with about 86% of the field gone. My first table was highly unfortunate featuring 5 americans! Thankfully it broke in half hour. It had Joe Ebanks, Dan Smith and Will Failla in there - who has been running super hot. I'm not sure if he is any good or the new Frank Kassela? Then I moved to a great table that stayed together all day. I had Eric Cajales (the body builder guy) to my left for most of the day. He played alright but seemed to have no sense of humour whatsoever! I didn't like him at all. Also played with Terrance Chan, Brian from two months two million (who was a lot more likeable in real life than on the show) and big lizard faced Dan Shak. Some Israeli actor dude and also some guy who won some big French tourney and all the reporters were following but was possibly the most weak tight player I've ever seen. Sample play. It folds to him in the sb, he has 4.5bbs. He limps, I shove from the BB, he folds. Awesome! Everyone else was mostly French and mostly bad. I had a suckout early vs this big fat long haired bearded guy who may have won a bracelet? Got it in with 66 v 77 and binked a 6 on the river. He got most of it back when his KQ got there on the turn vs my AQ, but I finally knocked him out when my KK held vs his QQ. I could have really had a big stack when I got it all in on the flop with AA, with the board J87. Cajales had J9 and super weak tight old guy had KJ. Couldn't fade the T on the river to make Eric's gutshot. That would have given me a really nice stack. So I had a rush of cards in the middle but then went quite card dead. We were playing ten handed and a couple more aggro players came to the table late in the day so I was hanging on and waiting for spots. This big bald guy got loads of chips all day by being a complete luckbox and was possibly the chipleader and then Dimitri Noblesed them all away. Tough to play the whole day starting at noon and bust the last hand of the day at midnight. I was disappointed and quite tired at the end. Bustout hand I restole with AT and 15.5bbs from CO vs a MP 2.2x open from a looseish Lock Poker sponsored euro guy. People were starting to bag up, it was a good last pot to steal, so I don't mind my shove. He had JJ and I didn't get there. I had made several laydowns before that in marginal spots, so I dunno maybe I should have stuck to my plan, but I would be going back day two with around 11bbs and I have to get chips from somewhere. Field soft. I had a great table mostly. Well organised. It was a good tournament indeed and I'm really disappointed to be out after getting a run at it. I'm now on a 0/23 run in live poker for events counting on hendon mob database -In between I did win a live satellite for EPT Berlin but that's not in the record books. I ran good and accidently got two food vouchers. The first was spent on a most excellent buffet. The second I used after I busted on a 330ml bottle of Heineken (€6.20!) and a Twix (€3.00). Of course I wasn't staying at the balla hotel on the beach and as I walked back to my cheap hotel (expenses!), the 6 euro beer did little to mask the disappointment of missing out on my first WSOP cash.
Re: WSOPE!Love reading your reports, bummed it wasn't a bit longer. I played with Joe Ebanks before, although I had no idea who he was until I googled him just now. He hardly said a word.
Re: WSOPE!Forgot to mention the trains were on strike. Lol Francaments.
So I spent 2.5 hours waiting at the station in Nice being told that the train was coming in 'cinq minutes', then went to get the bus, but the driver didn't really seem in any hurry to drive and the Friday afternoon traffic was murder. Unfortunately I'd already bought in online so had visions of my stack blinding away. And this was 6 max too. Did a quick EV calculation and worked out that springing for a taxi would be more +ev than getting the bus and probably missing the entire first level. 90 euros for the taxi! ching. I got there in plenty of time, registered and even had time for some food and a stroll. This was one of the best organised registration and money wiring operations I've seen in a casino. Oh and I ended up winning a really nice pot on the second hand when I flopped a set, so the taxi was definitely worth it. On Sunday I got the bus back from Cannes to Nice. It is about 35 miles and cost one euro! Will Failla seemed like an incredibly nice guy and fun to play with. I was only at his table for about half hour, so I have no real idea if he is any good or not.
