Pearljammer on FT of $25k buy-in MTT

Postby taz115 » Aug 20 2010

Not a WSOP but still a big MTT. $25k buy-in Cyprus Event. 36 players started, 5 pay and he is sitting 3/7. He was quite short yesterday and must have mounted a comeback on the bubble of the FT.

Live Updates here if anyone is interested.

Firstly let me say that Jon Turner is clearly a better player than I ever will be

BUT

I've never understood these 'High Roller' tourneys. Where is the value? This field looks absolutely packed with talent that I struggle to see the value and wonder how easy it is to beat the rake in these things.

Now clearly some like the WSOP 50k have extra benefits like tv time etc and Dan Shak usually plays these so there is at least some value! Plus I know the bigger ones sites will put people in.

But a 36 man high roller in what is not that much of a well known event - I don't get why you would play even if you are a great player.

I agree, but a decent % of the players playing must have at least partial backing from site endorsements to play I would think. Turner is wearing a FTP patch, I'd be suprised if they covered his entire buy-in but who knows.

Blah

The players may be on the bubble of the $25,000 High Roller Freeze-Out, but that hasn't stopped the big pots from being played. These guys are all seasoned in the game of poker and although bubbling sucks, it's not going to make them back down.

Jon Turner raised to 18,000 and David Benyamine called in position. The flop came down :as :kh :9s and Turner fired 21,000. Benyamine raised to 69,000 and then Turner reraised. Benyamine moved all in and Turner made the call. Benyamine was all in for 258,000 total with the :Kc :9c. Turner held the :8s :6s for a flush draw.

The turn brought the :ah and the river the :qc. Benyamine's hand held and he doubled to about 560,000 chips. Turner dropped to around 185,000.

Comments on his last hand, sounds like he might have been sick like ChrisJP was at the WSOP:

On the first hand after the players got into the money, David Benyamine raised to 25,000 and Andrew Feldman called on the button. Jon Turner, who has been overheating very visibly and asked the tournament staff to help him get some medical help, shoved all in from the big blind for 159,000. Benyamine folded, but Feldman made the call after thinking about it for a tiny bit.

Daniel Negreanu wrote an excellent article about this once. http://www.cardplayer.com/cardplayer-magazines/65678-brian-townsend-20-17/articles/16963-why-do-sharks-eat-other-sharks
