Party Poker Software
Party Poker has upgraded their software significantly and it is truly a great upgrade. The once very basic software has received a much needed facelift and Party Poker has delivered. Gone are the static avatars and basic design. Now players have a lot of control over their playing experience.
Players have a choice between the classic Party Poker software and their newer software. Those wishing to play the old-school software will notice few changes. The new table at Party Poker is green-felt with avatar/screen name blocks surrounding the table. Players can upload images to represent them at the table. There are 6 card backs to choose from as well as a four-color deck mode. Players can turn the avatars on and off at their leisure. Party Poker's note function includes a wrap-around feature and players also have a statistics screen, although the information presented here is very minimal. Players may toggle 3-color action buttons as well as keyboard shortcut keys for ease of action. A new slider for betting during NL cash games or tournaments plus bet-sizing options makes it easier to manipulate the right bet. Tables can be re-sized. A 1920x1200 monitor can easily support 12 re-sized tables with scant overlap. Players have access to their Hand Histories on table. The chat functions have been re-tooled with player given more control over what is displayed here as well as emoticons available for use.
Party Poker's lobby menus are clearly some of the best now. Players have a large variety of choices now. Players can select cash games from an info bar on the left of the lobby or filter through a large number of filters offered at the top of the menus. Players may also utilize Party Poker's "Quick Seat" to quickly bring up all of the types of tables they prefer to play. When players highlight a specific cash game table in the lobby menu they are given a live preview icon to help look at who is on a specific table. The cash game main menu displays "Players Seeing the Flop %", Average Pot size and Hands per Hour.
The option of playing Party Poker in both the old-style and new-style configurations are pretty impressive. Old-style players will be able to continue to play in their comfort zone. Those players who have thought Party Poker's software needed upgrading will be pleased with the new-style graphics, filters and functions.

Party Poker Traffic
Party Poker's stance on disallowing players from the United States from playing at the poker site has severely impacted their player traffic. Although they are still a large traffic site, they no longer are the largest site on the internet. Party Poker is attempting to expand their player base by targetting Europe and Southeast Asia.

Bullajami Discretionary Party Poker Bonus Rating
Return to Top of Party Poker Review
Piscivorous Discretionary Party Poker Bonus Rating
Party Poker has completely re-tooled the way players can clear bonuses there. Player need to earn 5 Party Points for each bonus dollar. Players earn, for instance, 3.5 Party Points for each 20 raked hands at $1/$2 fixed limit. A base Jack-level player, therefore, would need to play in 23 raked hands in order to clear $1 in bonus. This, on the surface, makes this slightly less than a 23x bonus if playing these stakes. Indeed it is for those players who decide to hit and run Party bonuses. For the players who play consistently at Party, however, the bonuses here can be quite lucrative, even at the $0.50/$1 limit. Each level above the entry level Jack status, the earnrate increases. So if you manage to attain Queen level, your raked hands neede drop by half to around 11x. Keep going and ultimately an Ace level player can get 14 Party Points for 20 raked hands, effectively clearing $3.50 every 20 raked hands. This is between 5 and 6x raked hand requirements. A step further into the $2/$4 fixed limit and a player could earn 44 Party Points for every 20 raked hands ace an Ace level player. That's $11 for every 20 raked hands. Put another way, that's a 1.8x raked hand requirement.
Although the bonus doesn't clear as well at the micro-limits as it once did, or even the $1/$2 limit, the fact of the matter is that Party Poker has initiated a player program for bonuses that reward their loyal players, but that also doesn't shut out those players who play there sporadically looking for the best bonuses.
In my heyday as a Party-only player, I would have enjoyed a player VIP program like they offer now. My bonuses would have cleared faster and I would have accrued more Party Points quicker.
Party Poker does have one glaring deficiency. They don't reward their players with Party Points for tournament and SnG play. In my opinion, this could easily be remedied.
